Empowering Women, Youth & Disabled Entrepreneurs
SA Imbokodo supports practical training, business growth, and access to markets — helping members earn, employ, and lead.
About Us
SA Imbokodo is a registered non-profit (294-353 NPO) that helps women, youth, and people with disabilities earn income through skills training, mentorship, and enterprise support. We focus on practical development in areas like agriculture, craft, fashion, and small business. Our programs are built to remove barriers, connect people to real opportunity, and support long-term independence.
Through collaboration with universities, industry partners, and government, we offer more than training—we connect our members to real markets, funding opportunities, and professional networks. Every person we support moves one step closer to financial stability, stronger communities, and a future shaped by their own efforts.
What We Do
We focus on actions that create income, build businesses, and open access to long-term opportunity — especially for those often left out of the formal economy.
01.
Training in leatherwork, agriculture, digital tools, and small business management — tailored to industry standards and local needs.
02.
Mentorship, business coaching, and incubation to help members launch and grow income-generating ventures.
03.
Exhibitions, trade platforms, and supply chain partnerships that connect small producers to buyers and growth opportunities.
Why It Matters
Each participant is matched with a mentor who offers guidance, listens, and supports their progress from learning to earning.
We raise real voices in policy discussions, making sure laws and funding reflect the challenges faced by the people we serve.
From shared tools to emotional support, our members work together — helping each other stay in business and stay connected.
Where We Focus
Our work spans multiple sectors, but the goal stays the same: help people gain the skills, tools, and support to participate in the economy — and improve their lives.
Workshops and technical programs focused on trades, business skills, and production quality — aligned with real industry needs.
Support for startups and small businesses through mentorship, incubation, and access to networks and resources.
We connect SMEs to markets by organizing and supporting participation in trade shows and product showcases.
We work on the ground to meet local needs, from school-based volunteering to food relief and project coordination.
Our Work in Action
We support economic participation through hands-on support, skills transfer, and on-the-ground programs. Here’s a look at some of our recent highlights.
In partnership with Mpumalanga’s Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation and the dtic, SAIA supported six SMEs to exhibit at the Rand Easter Show. Products ranged from handmade fashion to leather goods.
Results:
Sales between R30,000–R60,000
One SME secured a R61,000 order
800+ customer interactions and B2B leads
High visibility and strong cultural branding
SAIA and SAFLEC co-hosted training by Milan’s Arsutoria School in Cape Town (May 2024). Participants learned advanced bag design, materials handling, and finishing techniques to prepare for global markets.
SAIA contributed to shaping national training programs for General Goods, ensuring they meet real industry needs. Focus areas included:
Cutting & Material Handling (NQF 2)
Quality Control
Finishing & Fabrication
These programs improve efficiency, compliance, and SME competitiveness.
SAIA arranged a community service experience for a Grade 12 student, promoting volunteerism and basic project skills. The initiative supported both youth development and the work of Meals on Wheels in Mamelodi.
